Tesla Begin Taking Orders for Solar Roof Tiles

In October of 2016, Tesla founder Elon Musk unveiled the company’s latest product – solar roof tiles. Combing two building products: traditional roof tiles and solar panels, the result is inarguably aesthetically preferable.

While the tiles will be more expensive than traditional roof tiles, Tesla argues that they will cost 10-15% less than the combination of ordinary tile roof plus solar panels.

Tesla have begun taking orders for US customers, who must put down a $1,000 deposit via Tesla’s website. While the company estimates that a 1700 square foot roof with half the roof covered in ‘active’ solar tiles will cost $34,300 after tax credit – it claims the tiles have the potential to generate approximately $76,700 worth of electricity over 30 years.

While these solar roof tiles aren’t available in Ireland yet, overseas markets are expected to receive this product next year.

Life or Infinity Warranty – Whatever Comes First!

Made from tempered glass, Tesla’s solar roof tiles are three times stronger than standard roof tiles. The company is so confident in the product that the tiles come with a warranty for the lifetime of your house, or infinity, whichever comes first.

Evolving Industry Adopting New Technologies

Tesla’s developments are indicative of an evolving industry with technological advances changing the way buildings are designed, manufactured and constructed. 3D printers have already been used to create structures, drones are being used to keep tabs of onsite productivity and security and there is even a possibility of robot construction workers.

At J.V. Tierney & Co. we are excited about the future of construction in Ireland and committed to being industry leaders and using the latest technology in our mechanical and electrical design.
