Goldcrest Student Village providing 429 En-Suite Bedrooms for Incoming Students to University of Galway

The UoG Student Accommodation Project, known as Goldcrest Student Village, is a purpose built student accommodation development located on the University of Galway campus.  The accommodation comprises of 429 ensuite bedrooms across 74 clusters of varying sizes (4, 5 & 6 bed) with shared kitchen, dining and living rooms.  Office space and common areas are also provided.

The design development and construction was carried out in order to meet an occupancy date of September 2018. In order to achieve this the design intent for the building and services required fast buildability.  The successful contractor put forward a pre-cast solution to meet the programme dates in order to achieve the University’s handover date.  The development contains 4 No. individual blocks of 3, 4 and 5 storeys high, enclosing 2 courtyards, with a total area of 12,500m².  Communal facilities and reception are centrally located.  The development also includes central plant facilities, c/w satellite plant rooms in each block and a dedicated ESB sub-station for the development.

  • Full BIM Design to Level 2

  • All Bed and Living rooms have natural lighting and ventilation
  • Air tightness and insulation level of 2.9m³/m²/hr@50Pa
  • Energy Efficient LED Lighting Throughout with Environmentally Sensitive Controls/ Daylight/ Presence Control
  • Fully Addressable Fire Detection and Alarm System Interlinked with Lifts and HVAC Systems, Data and Power Services Provision for Client Server/Comms Rooms
  • Electronic Security Control Using Prox Cards to Pperate Doors, bedrooms, Central Services
  • Digital Security Closed Circuit Television System with Hard Disk Recording
  • Audio Visual Intercom Unit Linking each Apartment to the External Entrance
  • Natural Ventilation with High Levels of Airtightness and Insulation
  • Centralized Energy Centre & Building Energy Management System (BEMS)
  • Energy Metering on all Heating Circuits and Electrical Consumer Units to Apartment Clusters, Landlord Distribution Boards, and Lifts
  • Fibre Connectivity to UoG ICT system via diverse routes
  • 10 No. Regenerative Drive Passenger Lift Installations
