Features:

Clinical Education & Research Centre to provide new home for University of Limerick School of Medicine programme and Post-Graduate Teaching programmes

This joint venture between the University of Limerick and the HSE comprised the construction of a 3,445m² building on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick, Dooradoyle. The building incorporates a 150-seat lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, library, academic and administration offices, student common room, research laboratory, computer lab and clinical skills lab.

The development involves refurbishment and extension to existing buildings in a “live” hospital campus environment and the new Clinical Education and Research Centre is connected onto the existing site utilities, e.g. natural gas, LV distribution, ICT, and fire alarm detection network. JV Tierney & Co. designed this integration and the M&E & Sustainability specification for this job. Other services included:

  • Delivered using a Building Information Modelling Process (BIM) to Level 2 Maturity
  • High efficiency lighting
  • Heat Recovery
  • Building Energy Management Systems
  • Metering and Sub-metering of Distribution Boards and Water Supplies
  • High Thermal U-Values on building insulation and glazing
  • Sensor Operated Sanitary Fittings
  • Variable Speed Controls for Motors and Pumps
  • Low water content heating emitters
