The works involved a new 4 Storey Development consisting of additional Post Graduate and Reading Room facilities for the College.  The New Development is located on top of part of the Existing Arts Block and is in very close proximity to the 1937 Reading Room Library Area.  The development includes the installation of specialised digitisation suite, and an underground link to the 1937 Reading Room Library.  The development is on a site which has many protected structures and was carried out while the College remained operational.

The Long Room Hub is a Trinity College Dublin Research Institute serving the arts, humanities and discursive social sciences.  The project consisted of a new 4,000m² reading and research building constructed on the existing campus as an extension to the Edmund Burke Theatre which includes the following general areas:

  • Research Areas
  • Multimedia Rooms
  • Seminar and Lecture Theatres
  • Offices
  • Reading Rooms

JV Tierney provided the M&E & Sustainability Design for this project, including:

  • Maximisation of Natural Ventilation through Design
  • BER ‘B’ Category
  • Low and Super-Neutral Double Glazing
  • Designed to BREEAM Requirements
