Winner of 2023 Building Better Healthcare Awards in Categories ‘Best International Healthcare Facility’, ‘The Grand Prix Design Award’, and ‘Patient’s Choice Award’. Also Winner of 2022 Fit-Out Awards in Category ‘Project of the Year – Healthcare’.

This development consisted of a new 25,000m² Forensic Mental Health Hospital Campus to accommodate 130 No. beds, providing a range of high and medium secure mental health units for a range of adults and children who have a diverse assortment of healthcare, social and criminogenic needs and risks.

The campus comprises a secure 32-acre site comprising of 10 buildings, of which 7 are accommodation / living buildings, administration building with vocational and education rooms, therapy rooms, recreation areas and a primary healthcare clinic, a Visitor Centre Building and a Central Energy Building.  It includes the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services Facility.

JV Tierney & Co. provided the design of Mechanical, Electrical, Sustainable and Protective Services for the project, including:

  • Designed to Achieve BER ‘A3’
  • Design Stage has Achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Rating
  • Thermal & Energy Modelling of Building
  • X-Ray Screening at Entry Points
  • Anti-Ligature Fittings and Fixtures
  • 15No. Seclusion Rooms with Life Safety Monitoring Systems
  • Natural Gas Combined Heat & Power Plant (CHP)
  • Central Energy Centre with Natural Gas-Fired Medium Temperature Heating System (MTHW0 and campus distribution with MTHW/LTHW Heat Exchangers in each building.
  • AHU plant serving all communal areas complete with heat recovery
  • Maximising the use of Natural Ventilation of spaces where appropriate in lieu of mechanical ventilation to minimise energy consumption
  • Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) coupled with extensive metering of plant for optimum control of energy use
  • An automatic lighting control function on the lighting system for switching of lights to save energy when daylight is available
