First-of-its-Kind Teaching & Research Facility in Ireland included in Third Largest Maternity Hospital Development.

The Cork University Maternity Hospital is a new 16,500m² 150-bed addition to the pre-existing Cork University Hospital campus. The Maternity Hospital replaces the former Erinville, St. Finbarr’s, and the private Bon Secours Maternity Hospital. This development is now the third-largest maternity hospital in the country.

Maternity, Neonatal and Gynaecological services are provided for patients and their families. The hospital has 3 Operating Theatres, a High Dependency Unit, 150 Obstetric Beds, 36 Single Wards, 36 Double Wards, 8 Four-Bed Wards and a 50-Cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Unit, Day Services Department and On-Call Accommodation. Also provided are Post-Mortem and Laboratory Facilities, HSSD Sterile Services, Catering & Administration facilities.

The building also accommodates a purpose-built Teaching and Research facility on Level 05 operated by University College Cork, including the Anu Research Laboratory. This is a world-class research centre focusing on the mother and unborn child in the molecular basis of human reproduction, perinatal clinical trials, and epidemiology and innovation in gynaecological surgery. This is the first such centre of its kind in Ireland.

JV Tierney & Co. provided full Mechanical, Electrical, Sustainability, and Cost Management Services for the hospital development, including provision of a full-time resident engineer for the project. Services included:
