New 16,000m² Prison Development to Serve Cork Community

The new Cork Prison development with an area of 16,000 sq. m comprises of an Energy Building, Gate lock and Visits building, Main H Block building, Sports Hall, Recreation Building and External Car Parking.  The Main H Block building accommodation consists of 156 No. Cells, 8 No. High support Cells, 4 No. Special observation Cells, 3 No. Disabled Cells, Laundry, 2No. Workshops, 20 No. Classrooms, Library, Computer Rooms, Dentistry, CSSD, Healthcare facilities and Office Accommodation.  The Gate Lock Building houses the Vehicle Gate lock, Visits Building and also the Main Control Room for the Prison. The Visits Building is the first line of security and is where all Prison Staff and Visitors are fully screened before entering the Prison, and the Main Control Room is the 24/7 nerve centre of the Prison and is protected via bullet proof glass and 2 sets of secure metal doors which operate via biometric access control system.
