We closed out a busy year with the handover of the new Nenagh Community Nursing Unit, which was completed in November 2023. JV Tierney & Co provided the Mechanical, Electrical & Sustainable Design on the project for the Health Service Executive alongside a Design Team led by Michael Collins Architects (MCA).
The purpose-built 50-bed nursing unit is located adjacent to Nenagh Hospital in Tipperary. It is 4674m² in size and divided into two households with 25 bedrooms in each. Also included in the development is the admin block, commercial kitchen, day rooms, activity rooms, and a meeting space.
There are several sustainable design features in line with the HSE Climate Action Plan that are part of the Mechanical & Electrical design of the development, including naturally ventilated spaces to minimise energy consumption, Air sourced heat pumps, high efficiency heating plant and lighting fixtures, Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) coupled with smart metering of Plant and electrical switchgear for optimum monitoring and control of energy use.
An in-depth compliance analysis was used to confirm Part L compliance and also to ensure the highest possible Building Energy Rating was achieved with high levels of renewable contribution to offset the buildings various energy demands. JVT used IES (Virtual Environment) software to carry out detailed analysis allowing for optimum system setup and configuration saving time and effort. Monocrystalline Photovoltaic (PV’s) technology was utilised along with air source Heat Pumps to satisfy the Building’s NZEB’s renewable energy requirements. As well as being Part L Building Regulations compliant, the building also achieved a Building Energy Rating of A3.
JVT are proud to have worked on this state-of-the art healthcare project alongside the HSE, Nenagh Hospital, MCA Architects & other members of the design/construction teams as well as Conack Construction.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
