Lee Watson is an Associate Director and Senior Engineer at JV Tierney with over 20 years’ experience in the building and construction industry. Lee first joined the practice in 2007 and later rejoined in 2021. As well as being involved at Senior Level on many of our major Healthcare, Education and Residential projects, Lee also has 6 years’ of international experience in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Having started his career as an Electrician, Lee has gained considerable knowledge in the practical application of engineering design concepts. He has been responsible for bringing many large-scale projects from conception stage and master planning, through to detailed design, and then overseeing the construction phase. Some of Lee’s responsibilities include on-going financial reporting for cost control management, finalizing accounts with large-scale contractors, as well as managing a multi-disciplinary team. A key aspect of Lee’s role is client liaison which includes analysing and interpreting client needs and ensuring expectations are sufficiently managed and achieved throughout the course of the project.

Lee was the Senior Engineer on the new Emergency Department in University Hospital Galway (UHG). Interconnection to the existing “live” hospital campus and design reconfiguration to allow separation of COVID and non-COVID patients were highly prioritised in the design. Lee provided innovative solutions to the electrical challenges posed by these design aspects.

Lee is up to date with Part L Building Regulations (NZEB) and the latest SMART and Renewable technologies applicable to Building Services Design. He has experience in the design of Intelligent Buildings using cloud technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), which creates a productive and cost-effective environment by optimising and monitoring building performance.
