Darren Dowling is an Associate Director and Chartered Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in Building Services and the Construction Industry. Darren completed his studies in Electrical Services Design in Dublin Institute of Technology (TUD) and further progressed his education with a Master of Science in Renewable Energy & Energy Management from the University of Ulster.
Darren joined JVT in 2015 and has since been involved in many award-winning projects in the Commercial, Healthcare, Education, and Sports & Leisure sectors. He acted as Senior Electrical Engineer on Bank of Ireland HQ, the 17,000m² Cat B Bespoke Fitout on Baggot Plaza, Dublin. Darren was also responsible for the Electrical Design of the Lidl Distribution Centre in Newbridge, which included Ireland’s largest array of photovoltaic (solar) panels (1.2MW).
At the peak of the COVID crisis Darren took the lead on delivering critical healthcare projects nationwide including a state-of-the-art Ophthalmology Operating Theatre and a 26-bed Acute Ward at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. The Ophthalmology suite includes two fully equipped operating theatres, increasing the Mater’s operating capacity to 15. The 26-bed ward was deemed to be a “Category A, Grade 1 Risk” which covers life support or complex surgery as per Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 06-01: Electrical services supply and distribution. Darren built a strong working relationship with the Mater Hospital and the HSE which led to his later involvement in the new 98-bed Rock Wing at MMUH, which includes 16 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and a new home for the first National Isolation Unit in Ireland.
Darren advises on all electrical components of the design including Primary Power/Standby Generation, ICT, Lighting, and Life Safety/Security systems. He regularly engages with Utility Companies on the introduction of new power supplies, and with Landscape Design Consultants on the interaction of Lighting within the Public Realm. To the projects he leads Darren brings an in-depth understanding of an Electrification/Decarbonisation approach that involves no fossil fuel equipment for heating and hot water generation. Darren would focus on CapEx & Opex cost and energy-efficiency through electrical design.
Darren plays an integral role within the Management Team through his involvement with client liaison, mentoring, company fundraising and upholding health, safety and quality standards.
